Kinesiologist - Coquitlam

Back in Motion Rehab is looking to hire a permanent, full-time Kinesiologist for our Coquitlam Clinic.

Under the direction of the OR2/ASTD Manager, the Kinesiologist works within a multidisciplinary team and assist clients with return to work and improve their quality of life.


  • Provides daily supervision and support to clients to implement and progress exercise and stretching programs as well as work simulation programs.
  • Responsible for day-to-day administrative duties involved in the operation of the programs;
  • Coordinates with facilities and purchasing for maintenance of gym equipment and supplies;
  • May liaise with the employer and the worker, conducts on-site Job Site Visits/Return to Work
  • Confirms job demands, develop a structured Gradual Return to Work (GRTW) plan, and monitor the GRTW plan to facilitate a successful outcome;
  • Within the appropriate programs, communicate with referral sources (rehabilitation consultants, case managers etc.), as needed;
  • Develops education schedule and scheduling clients for appointments with other team members;
  • Participates in staff committees such as Health and Safety, File Review, Professional Development, or Steering Committee;
  • Participates in special projects as they arise;
  • May be required to provide education to community and professional organizations, and market existing programs and services;
  • May be involved in providing either mentorship to other Kinesiologists and/or supervision to Kinesiology students.


  • Within the appropriate programs, the Kinesiologist may be required to perform the following:  Reviews medical file(s);
  • Conducts interviews to obtain information on client’s occupation, pre-injury employer, job demands, and return to work barriers;
  • Performs a functional assessment to determine baseline function and to identify return to work barriers.


  •  Within the appropriate programs, the Kinesiologist may be required to write stand alone or interdisciplinary reports in a timely manner as outlined in the appropriate program contracts.
  •  Maintain weekly program notes to document client interaction and progress.

Activity Program

  • Provides client orientation to facility and program;
  • Independently or in conjunction with other team members, formulates and progresses active rehabilitation plans including goal orientated exercise and work simulation programs which assist clients prepare for returning to work;
  •  Assists client in progressing exercises as needed, while encouraging independent management of program;
  • Identifies clients requiring individualized attention and assist them in a one-on-one capacity;
  • Provides gym supervision to ensure safe operation of program equipment;
  • Assists clients in active management of symptoms which may include (dizziness, headache, memory/attention difficulties, orthopaedic pain/stiffness, fatigue etc.);
  • Liaises with treatment team (Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, Physicians) to provide coordinated care to clients and to overcome barriers to rehabilitation and return to work;
  • Develops home exercise programs for clients upon discharge.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a Kinesiologist within a similar responsible role and in a related type of work setting.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in evidence based orthopaedic, concussion, neurological or mental health practice with a strong emphasis on active rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of psycho-social aspects of disability an asset.
  • Travel may be required to other locations in the lower mainland.


  •  Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or Human Kinetics or equivalent degree.
