Registered Clinical Counsellor - Part-time Permanent, North Vancouver

 

POSITION:           REGISTERED CLINICAL COUNSELLOR

LOCATION:          NORTH VANCOUVER

WORK STATUS:  PART-TIME, 1 DAY/WEEK

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Rehabilitation Services Manager, the Clinical Counsellor is responsible for the facilitation of education classes, relaxation training groups, and individual psychological treatment/counselling sessions within the context of the Occupational Trauma Program or Occupational Rehabilitation Program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides education classes on a variety of subjects relevant to the ORP and OTP;
  • Provides short-term, one-on-one psychological support and/or treatment to ORP and OTP clients; this may include provision of empirically validated psychological treatment (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy);
  • Provides time-limited, empirically validated psychological treatment (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) with ORP and OTP for clients with a range of presenting problems/diagnoses;
  • Provides return to work focused psychological treatment within a rehabilitation context;
  • Maintains treatment goals that are realistic in the context of the program and program length;
  • Completes intake, progress, and discharge reports in a timely manner and as specified in agreements laid out with customer;
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date clinical notes and other records;
  • Works effectively in an multidisciplinary team environment; communicates and consults with team members as appropriate;
  • Communicates effectively and professionally, as appropriate, with the referral source/customer;
  • Demonstrates sound clinical judgment;
  • Provides crisis intervention as required;
  • Adheres to Back In Motion policies/procedures/practices, as well as standards of service;
  • Reviews contracts and ensures adherence to contractual obligations/responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of the practice of counselling in a rehabilitation environment.
  • Applicants who wish to work in our Occupational Trauma Program will require:
    • at least two years’ experience, in the past five years, working predominantly with individuals with PTSD
  • Applicants who wish to work in our Occupational Rehabilitation Program, we require:
    • at least 2 years of clinical experience; ideally working with individuals with work related conditions/injury.

Education:

  • M.A. in Clinical Psychology or equivalent

Memberships & Associations: 

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors

Skills & Attributes:

Required

  • Excellent skills in providing short-term psychological treatment/counselling and skills training.
  • For the ORP: Knowledge of effective pain management strategies.
  • For the OTP: Expertise in empirically supported treatment of psychological trauma.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a vocational rehabilitation context.
  • Experience working with third party providers.
